2008 Uniform Law Commission - William J. Pierce Writing Contest

Uniform Law Commission -- William J. Pierce Writing Contest

Contest:

The winning article, note, or comment will receive a prize of $1,000 from the Uniform Law Commission (ULC), and will be eligible for publication in the ULC quarterly newsletter, Uniform Activities. Other exceptional articles will also be considered for publication in the newsletter.

Topic:

Any article, note, or comment that addresses a uniform or model act, or an issue arising from a uniform or model act promulgated by ULC may be eligible.

Eligibility:

The contest is open to all students enrolled in any United States law school. The contest is also open to students who have graduated from U.S. law school within the last year. Essays must be original; they may have been submitted for course credit, but they must not have been written as part of paid employment. Student articles or notes published or scheduled for publication in 2007 are specifically sought for submission. Current and former ULC commissioners and employees are not eligible.

Judging:

All entries will be judged by a panel of ULC Uniform Law Commissioners and officers.

Format:

Essays must present complete, well-reasoned and well-supported arguments. Entries must follow the latest version of the Harvard Bluebook Rules of Citation, with footnotes, and must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word or WordPerfect format.

To Enter:

Submit entries electronically to katie.robinson@nccusl.org with the subject heading, "2007 Essay Contest." Entries must be received via e-mail no later than midnight, December 31, 2007. Include with your entry a cover letter stating your name, phone number, name of law school, year of graduation, and a statement that the essay was not written as part of paid employment. Violations of the contest rules may result in disqualification.

Deadline:

No later than midnight December 31, 2007. The winner will be announced by February 15, 2008.
