EXPIRED: Friday, February 8, 2008.

2008 ACS National Student Writing Competition

The national American Constitution Society (ACS) and the University of Pennsylvania Law School's American Constitution Society chapter announce the fourth annual legal writing competition for law students nationwide. Papers will be judged on their effective use, analysis, and/or expansion of progressive legal scholarship. The judging committee will include federal judges and leading academics.

2008 Competition Theme:

This year's theme is "Liberty, Security and Democracy in Our Evolving Society." We encourage participants to view this topic broadly and welcome submissions on a variety of related substantive areas. Examples of possible subjects include separation of powers, voting rights, national security, equal protection and freedom of the press.

Eligibility:

Any full-time or part-time law student currently enrolled in a J.D., LL.M. or S.J.D. program at an United States law school is eligible to participate. Only one entry per student is permitted. Multiple submissions will result in disqualification.

Award:

The author of the top submission will receive $3,000 and be eligible for publication in the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law. The authors of the two runner-up submissions will each receive $1,000. ACS will post winning submissions on its website. In addition, the three winning authors will be recognized at the 2008 ACS National Convention.

Deadline:

The deadline is Friday, February 8, 2008. Papers postmarked after this date will not be considered. The submission form and information about the competition rules, eligibility and format are available online.

Please direct questions to lawgroup-ACScompetition@law.upenn.edu. Competition updates will be posted online at ACSLaw.org and the University of Pennsylvania student chapter's website.
