2008 ABA Client Counseling Competition

The Client Counseling Competition helps to strengthen interviewing, planning, and analytical skills, which are so vital for an effective lawyer-client relationship. It is also a great chance for them to meet and network with lawyers and fellow law students from around the nation and Canada. In addition, competing in the Client Counseling Competition looks good on a resume.

Topic

This year's topic is Civil Rights/Civil Liberties.

Regional Competitions

The 2008 Regional Client Counseling Competitions will be held February 9-10 and February 15-17 at several locations across the U.S. and Canada. The deadline for entering the competition is Friday, October 26, 2007. The dates and locations of the regional competitions can be accessed from the Client Counseling Competition home page, http://www.abanet.org/lsd/competitions/clientcounseling/2008/dnl.pdf.

Intraschool Competitions

Many schools hold intraschool competitions to determine which teams to send to the Regional Competition. The 2007-08 Intraschool Problems are ready and will be sent to all schools participating in the competition. Once we have received your entry form, the ABA Law Student Division 2007-08 Client Counseling Competition Intraschool Problem will be sent to your school's contact.

>National Competition

The first place team from each Regional Competition will be invited to participate in the National Competition, which will take place March 8-9, 2008, in White Plains, New York.

International Competition

The highest ranking U.S. and Canadian teams will represent their respective countries at the International Client Counseling Competition, which will take place April 1-4, 2008, in Bangalore, India.

Eligibility

Please note that participation in the Regional and National Competitions is limited to students from ABA-approved law schools and Canadian LSAC-member law schools. Students from ABA-approved law schools must be members of the ABA Law Student Division members in order to compete. The annual membership fee for the Division is $25. Students can call the ABA Service Center at (800) 285-2221 or log on to http://www.abanet.org/lawstudent to become members of the Law Student Division.
