2008 Sovereignty Sympoosium XXI Full Scholarship Susan J. Ferrell Scholarship

2008 Sovereignty Symposium XXI Full Scholarship Susan J. Ferrell Scholarship

Susan J. Ferrell served as Attorney Advisor in the Oklahoma City office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for nine years. Much of her work concerned HUD's Native American programs; she was actively interested in Native American history and culture. One full (tuition, meals, and travel) scholarship to the Sovereignty Symposium XXI will be offered in her memory. Travel, lodging, and meal expenses for the Ferrell scholarship winner will be paid pursuant to the Oklahoma State Travel Reimbursement Act, subject to the limitations stated below.*

The Oklahoma Supreme Court, the Oklahoma Indian Affairs Commission, the Sovereignty Symposium, Inc., and the Oklahoma Arts Council will host Sovereignty Symposium XXI on June 4 and June 5, 2008, at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Applicants should demonstrate an interest in and contribution to Native American legal issues by an application letter. There is no application form. Please include name, address, and day and evening telephone numbers in your letter. Applicants must be students at an accredited law school in the United States, its territories, or Canada.

The Sovereignty Symposium was established to provide a forum in which ideas concerning common legal issues can be exchanged in a scholarly, non-adversarial environment. The Oklahoma Supreme Court espouses no view on any of the issues or the positions taken by the Symposium participants or by the authors of writing competition entries.

*The student will be paid either mileage at .505 cents per mile or round trip coach fare, not to exceed $500.00. A maximum of three nights of lodging at the conference rate will be paid directly to the hotel. A per diem of $49.00 will be paid each day for three days, not to exceed $147.00.
