Welcome!
The Student Bar Association (SBA) is the governing body for the students at
Southern Methodist University's Dedman School of Law. The SBA represents the
concerns and interests of the law school student body and sponsors a variety of
extracurricular events.
Our Mission
- to advance the best interests of legal education;
- to actively support and institute, when necessary,
procedures and practices for the betterment of the law school;
- and to promote the academic, professional and social
well-being of the membership.
Structure
The SMU Student Bar Association (SBA) is composed of all students in the School
of Law. This includes roughly 1000 students who attend day and evening classes
at the law school.
Executive Officers and Voting Council
Each year the students of the Dedman School of Law elects four
executive officers and student representatives from each law school section
to serve on the
SBA Voting Council. The Voting Council is the Legislative arm of the SBA.
Judicial Commission
The Judicial Commission is the judicial arm of the SBA. Any
member of the SBA may submit a controversy to the Judicial Commission, as long
as it is rooted in the aadministration of the SBA Constitution and/or ByLaws.
SBA Committees
All students are encouraged to serve on one or more of the
SBA committees. The committees serve a vital function in
carrying out the goals of the SBA as defined by the Voting Council.
Student Organizations
There are a variety of
student organizations created to further the interests of all
law students. The student organizations that have been chartered by the Student
Bar Association are elligible to recieve funding through the SBA annual
