Institutes and Programs
Through its several international institutes, the Dedman School of Law
has created a dynamic academic community in which students, faculty,
alumni, and other members of the local, national, and
international legal and business communities actively participate in a
range of programs that focus on particular issues of interest.
The Center for Pacific Rim Legal Studies offers curriculum
enrichment and research opportunities for this important region,
including visiting international scholars, conferences, campus roundtables,
and the collection of Pacific Rim legal treatises and documents.
The Law Institute of the Americas brings together leading U.S.,
Mexican, Latin American and Canadian scholars to contribute
to academic courses, research efforts, conferences and publications including
courses and seminars on the challenges of doing business in Mexico and
Latin America.
The SMU Institute of International Financial, Commercial and Technology Law
sponsors conferences and publications in international banking and finance.
In addition, the law school has developed a special
SMU-London Forum Initiative, which is designed to promote
developing country scholarship and host special programs
on Comparative Islamic Law.
