Contracts
with Professor Roy Ryden Anderson

<< Introduction >>

  ..
. This Internet tutorial is designed to give you an introduction to how the Socratic method works in a First Year Contracts Law class in law school. Imagine that you have been assigned to Professor Anderson's Contracts Law class, and that this will be the very first class you attend in law school. Professor Anderson has assigned Hamer v. Sidway to his students, a classic contract law case from the 19th century. Professor Anderson expects that all the students in the class have read the case carefully (which means more than one time for beginning law students), and have done their best to brief the case (which means write an outline of the legal issues) before coming to class. Professor Anderson expects to be able to call on any student in class, and through a series of questions and responses to the student's answers to those questions, help all the students in the class understand the case they have been assigned to read.
