"After 30 years spent in courtrooms in Texas, ... I am comfortable that SMU's emphasis on how to think as opposed to what to think has been instrumental in procuring justice for a number of deserving clients."

Marketing to Students

Throughout the year, employers contact our office to inquire into ways they may reach out to students and inform students about their organization. There are several ways to get involved as a way to market your organization:

Join the Professional Network

Receptions and Presentations for Students

Employers are encouraged to host receptions and participate in career related or practice specific information programs or panels throughout the year.    During the fall, employers may host receptions and information sessions for second, third and LL.M. students and first year students in the spring. Employers may not communicate directly or indirectly with first year students before December 1.

Mock Interview Program

Each fall and spring the Office of Career Services offers mock interview programs to help students improve their interview skills and prepare for on-campus interviews and self-directed career searches. The Dallas Association of Young Lawyers works with our office to schedule local attorneys to serve as interviewers during this program.

Event Scheduling

We will work with you to schedule your event to accommodate your needs and objectives. For all events, we will publicize to students through our email notices, post on our OCS events calendar and assist you with any audio/visual and catering needs. When contacting us about an event, please include the following information:

  • Proposed dates of event
  • Type of event you want to have (reception or presentation). For presentations, please provide us with the subject matter.
  • The student class(es) you are interested in attending your event
  • Do you require audio/visual assistance or catering?
  • Type of room you prefer (classroom or large court-room)

If you want to discuss any of the above, please contact Karen Sargent at kcsargent@smu.edu or 214-768-3893.
