Visiting Students

Guidelines

In order to be a visiting student at SMU Dedman School of Law, an applicant must be in good standing at an accredited law school. Visiting student applicants must complete the J.D. application. The application must be supported by a dean's letter of good standing and permission, a current law school transcript, and accompanied by the $75 nonrefundable application fee. In addition, the applicant must submit a statement articulating his or her compelling need to be a visiting student at SMU. The letters of recommendation, resume and personal statement are not required for visiting students.

Dates of Admission

Applications for fall admission must be postmarked by July 1 and all supporting documentation must be received by July 15. Applications for spring admission must be postmarked by December 1 and all supporting documentation must be received by December 15. Applications for summer admission must be postmarked by May 1 and all supporting documentation must be received by May 15.
