Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic to serve on the United States Supreme Court and only the third female to do so, gave the SMU Dedman School of Law students an invaluable opportunity when she personally visited with the group. Through a Q&A session led by Justice Sotomayor, the students were able to hear her insights and personal experiences as a Supreme Court Justice.
The event was spearheaded by 2L student leader Sadat Montgomery, who said he felt “privileged to be in the actual courtroom as history was taking place.”
Michelle Peritore, a 2L also on the trip, agreed, saying, “I think my favorite moment was when all nine Supreme Court Justices came out and took their seats; it was an amazing moment.”
SMU Dedman School of Law, American University Washington College of Law, and Harvard Law School were the only schools to participate in this very special event.
