Evening student Soji John's paper entitled "Improper Seizures by Sovereigns at Customs—Limiting EC 1383/2003 Through the Effects Principle," was selected by the Customs and International Trade Bar Association (CITBA) and Brooklyn Law School as one of the winners of the Andrew P. Vance Memorial Writing Competition. The paper takes an innovative and persuasive approach to customs seizures through the effects principle of extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Soji will be awarded $500 and will travel to New York City in November where the CITBA will announce the selection of his paper at its semi-annual meeting. The paper will also be considered for publication by the Brooklyn Journal of International Law and will be published on the CITBA website.
