Michele Wong Krause '85 receives Dallas Women Lawyers Association 2012 Louise B. Raggio Award
This award is named in honor of Louise B. Raggio, one of the founders of the Dallas Women Lawyers Association (DWLA).
Louise graduated from SMU Dedman School of Law in 1952 and was a mentor and champion of women lawyers in Dallas until her passing in 2011.
Each year, the DWLA presents the Louise B. Raggio Award to a person demonstrating the highest level of professionalism and who has contributed significantly to the advancement of women attorneys.
Michele Wong Krause embodies the spirit of the Louise B. Raggio Award. She has held leadership positions in many bar associations since graduating from SMU Dedman School of Law in 1985,including President of the Dallas Asian American Bar
Association in the 1990s and President of the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association in 2002. She has also represented Dallas in a term on the Board of the State Bar of Texas, as both the first Asian and first Hispanic attorney elected to that position.
Krause created the Dallas Minority Attorney Program (DMAP) in the mid-1990s. The free, ABA award-winning program is a one-day seminar designed to meet the unique challenges facing solo, small-firm, minority, and female attorneys by focusing on business development, marketing, office management, technology, guardians ad litem, and court appointments. Krause has also been instrumental for many years with "Bar None." Since its debut performance 23 years ago, "Bar None" has raised over $1 million for the Sarah T. Hughes Diversity Scholarships at SMU Dedman School of Law School.
Krause was honored at the
2012 DWLA Judicial Reception
held on October 11, 2012 at The Stoneleigh Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
