Presented by SMU Dedman School of Law and sponsored by The Ware Firm, this symposium will address the latest theories and practices important to the development of intellectual property law and explore emerging issues of intellectual property law through discussions with distinguished academics, jurists and leaders in the industry. The America Invents Act: A Revolution in Patent Law and Procedure

This symposium will examine the impact of the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act on substantive patent law doctrines as well as procedures for practice in front of courts and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Various panels will consider strategic uses of the new laws and procedures to ensure that our patent system fulfills the Constitutional mandate of “promot[ing] the Progress of . . . useful Arts.”

This symposium will pay tribute to the accomplishments of the Honorable T. John Ward, our country’s most experienced patent infringement trial judge. A recent retiree from the bench of the Eastern District of Texas, Judge Ward will deliver the keynote address.
