Fall 2014 On-Campus Interviews, Houston Interview Program & Résumé Collection Programs
SMU Dedman School of Law invites you to participate in our 2014 Interview and Résumé Collection Programs. The On-Campus Interview Programs allow employers to come to the Office of Career Services to interview full-time and part-time J.D. students and General, Tax, and International LL.M. students for summer, part-time or permanent positions. Our students are available for on-campus interviews with law firms, corporations, judges, public interest organizations, and government entities. In addition to our on-campus interview programs, we offer the Houston Interview Program. A number of our students are interested in establishing their law practice in Houston following their graduation from law school, and they indicate their commitment to make Houston their home by traveling to Houston to interview. The Houston Interview Program allows J.D. students the opportunity to interview for summer or permanent positions. Our students are available to interview with law firms, corporations, judges, public interest organizations, and government entities. We welcome you to interview our well-qualified students in Houston!
The Fall 2014 On-Campus Interview Programs will be held in August and October. The Houston Interview Program is held in August. Registration opens for all programs on February 26.
Overview of Dates and Deadlines:
August Early Interview Program
Employer registration for the August Early Interview Program closes on July 1. Registrations become visible to students March 24, so early registration is recommended.
Employers receive student materials at noon on August 1.
Employer candidate selections are due by noon on August 7.
The first day of interviews is August 18. Please note: Schedules for the first week fill quickly.
The first day of classes is August 25.
October Phase II Recruiting
Employer registration for Phase II Recruiting closes September 15.
Employer registrations become visible to students August 13.
Employers receive student materials at noon on September 18 and candidate selections are due September 22.
The first day of interviews is October 6.
Houston Interview Program
Employer registration for the Houston Interview Program closes July 1.
Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Embassy Suites, Galleria (2911 Sage Road)
There is no fee to register for the Houston Interview Program
Interviews will be conducted in hotel suites from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
All employers are invited to an Employer Luncheon at the Embassy Suites during the program
AUGUST 2014 EARLY INTERVIEW PROGRAM (AUGUST 18-29)
SMU Dedman School of Law will host an Early Interview Program in August. Weekday interviews may be conducted from Monday, August 18 through Friday, August 29. Interview dates are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and you are encouraged to reserve a date for on-campus interviews as early as possible. There is no fee to register for On-Campus Interview Programs.
Registration opens: Wednesday, February 26
Registration ends: Tuesday, July 1
FALL 2014 RECRUITING PHASE II (OCTOBER 6-10)
Law firms of less than 50 attorneys, judges, government entities, public interest organizations and corporations have the option to participate in Fall 2014 Recruiting Phase II, which will take place Monday, October 6 through Friday, October 10.
There is no fee to interview on-campus during Phase II Recruiting. On-campus interviews will be scheduled in the conference rooms within the Office of Career Services. After hours interviews may be scheduled—a full or partial day of interviews can be flexibly arranged between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Registration opens: Wednesday, February 26
Registration ends: Friday, September 12
HOW TO REGISTER FOR ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEW PROGRAMS
The Office of Career Services uses Symplicity to manage our recruiting programs. This system will allow employers to more easily manage the recruitment process by providing online registration, access to student résumés and application materials, interview selections and interview schedules. We ask interested employers to register for either the August 2014 Early Interview Program or Fall 2014 Recruiting Phase II through the online system using the steps below:
To register for Symplicity (new employers):
Using your Internet browser, go to: https://law-smu-csm.symplicity.com/employers/
Click on the Register tab.
Complete the requested employer information.
Click Submit button.
We will send you an email confirmation of your registration and containing your personal username and password. You may then return to the employer site, log in and follow the instructions below to participate in a Fall On-Campus Interviewing Program.
To register for the August 2014 Early Interview Program or the Fall 2014 Recruiting Phase II (for registered Symplicity employers):
Log in at https://law-smu-csm.symplicity.com/employers/
Click OCI in the toolbar. If you cannot click on this tab, we will need to add OCI to your list of services. Contact Mary Beth Nielsen at firstname.lastname@example.org to add OCI to your services.
Click on the Schedule Requests tab.
Hit the Request Schedule button.
From the session drop down at the top of the schedule request form, select either August 2014 Early Interview Program or Fall 2014 Recruiting Phase II.
Complete the requested information.
Please feel free to make additional schedule notes in the box provided at the bottom of the form.
Click the Submit button.
You will receive an email confirmation with the date you are assigned.
Send a firm brochure or résumé to Mary Beth Nielsen at email@example.com by Tuesday, July 1. Additionally, please email your NALP form, if available, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE RÉSUMÉ COLLECTION PROGRAM
The Résumé Collection Program permits employers who are unable to visit SMU campus the opportunity to solicit applications from law students. If you decide not to interview on campus, but would like to review résumés from our students, please follow the same steps listed above and select Fall 2014 Résumé Collection Program from the session drop down.
You may request students submit application materials directly to you, collect résumés online through Symplicity, or have the Office of Career Services collect the materials and forward them to your firm. We can also assist you in scheduling interviews and will facilitate the process in any way we can.
VIDEO CONFERENCING INTERVIEWS
Video Conferencing services are provided by the Office of Career Services. We can collect application materials for you, email or mail them in one convenient package, and your hiring committee can select only the students they wish to interview. If you are interested in this option, we ask that you allow at least four weeks to make all arrangements.
SYMPLICITY EMPLOYER INSTRUCTIONS

HOW TO POST A JOB
At any time during the year, for any position appropriate for law students (year-round, temporary, contract) or lateral positions for law school graduates, you may post a job on our Symplicity job bank and in our alumni job bulletin, The Mustang, at no cost to you. Many graduates from SMU and other law schools review both for lateral openings.
